The series premiered in
1968.
The humorous strip features
a group of wild animals living in a jungle called
Freeborn. They go quietly about their business
and chat a little. The series has a number of
recurring characters, of which the most seen are
the insecure lion Lyle, the self-centered bird
Dodo, and the clueless gnu Gnu.
The title was taken from a 1930 Marx
Brothers film by the same name. Nowadays the term
is mostly known in the USA for a special animal-shaped
type of bisquits (crackers).
