Personal dates: Founded in 1934 by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson (1890-1968) as National Allied Publications, but the name changed in 1937 to Detective Comics (later shortened to DC). Stopped in 2011.

MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1985. Stopped in 1986 after 16 issues*.

The main character, Amethyst, is originally a teenage girl named Amy Winston, who discovers that she is an orphaned princess of a magical world called Gemworld. There she has to overthrow an evil ruler called Black Opal for her rightful access to the throne.

The full title of the series is Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld.

* The series has been revived several times. The first series ran from 1983 to 1984 (12 issues).
